Message from the creator:

My artwork is based on my personal experiences, of feeling like my voice and opinion don’t matter as much as medical experts in my own medical care, which I know is a common experience for lots of my fellow disabled young people. This artwork shows a group of disabled people, showing that everyone’s voices are valid. My main message from this artwork is if you have something to say, say it! Your voice and opinion are the most valid! I am a part of a wonderful community online called Livewire, which is a website run by the Starlight Foundation for anyone aged 12-20 who has an illness, disability, or chronic condition and their siblings. That community has shown me kindness, and a sense of belonging I don’t experience anywhere else.  They have helped me become more confident in myself, and my conditions. They also helped inspire my artwork, and encouraged me to apply and create it.

Callani

Hi. I’m Callani. I am a disabled, queer, neurodivergent, chronically ill teen. I have a pet cockatiel called Dakota and I want to become a children's psychologist.

This image celebrates Disability Pride by showing a diverse group of disabled people confidently expressing their identities. The group includes individuals with various disabilities—some using wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, walkers, or accompanied by a guide dog. They are all smiling and holding signs with empowering messages like “Disabled and Proud,” “Chronic & Iconic,” and “Disability Pride.”
