Choosing the right disability supports
Here’s what to look for in your disability supports.
As a disabled young person, you have the right to be treated with respect, to feel safe, and to be supported in ways that work for you.
Your NDIS supports should help you do the things you want, feel more confident, and make your own choices. You have a right to be listened to, included in decisions that affect you, and be supported by people who treat you fairly.
This page will help you understand what good disability support looks like—and what to do if something doesn’t feel right.

Find the right disability supports
YDAS has created a set of work sheets to help you find the right disability supports.
Fill out the work sheets and share them when you meet with a new service provider or support worker. They can help you communicate what you want and set clear expectations from the beginning.

What disabled young people want from disability supports.
In this video, disabled young people talk about what they want from their disability supports and services.
Looking at examples of good and bad supports can help you figure out if new supports are a good fit or if something is wrong with your current supports.

Template: About me
NDIS service providers and support workers should understand your needs and how they can best support you.
Here is a template that you can fill out and share with your NDIS service providers and support workers. This can help them understand what you need and how to support you best.
This template was created by Victoria, a disabled young person and member of the Project Advisory Group, who led the development of this website.
